Does the 28mm Chip XF have severe vignetting due to its small aperture?

The 28mm Chip is a full-frame lens. On a Fujifilm APS-C camera, only the central portion of the image is used, resulting in better image quality and reduced vignetting compared to its performance on a full-frame camera.

What should I be aware of when using the 28mm Chip XF?

To ensure optimal performance:

  • Do not close the lens cap while using the lens, as this may cause damage or malfunction.
  • Manual focus is not supported.

There is a rattling sound when shaking the lens.
  • The lens uses a VCM motor. When the lens is not powered, the optical elements are not magnetically fixed, so it is normal to hear a sound when shaking.
  • When not using the lens, please close the lens cap. This not only protects the front element but also helps secure the internal lens group.

The lens extends when focusing on close objects.

The lens does not have a floating focus design; it uses a unit focus mechanism, meaning the entire lens group moves together. As a result, the lens extends forward when focusing on close subjects.

There is a noticeable focus breathing effect when switching between near and far focus.

To support autofocus while keeping the lens as compact as possible, the 28mm Chip uses a unit focus design. This results in a more pronounced focus breathing effect when adjusting focus.

Great price and product

This lense is so light and tiny but so powerful. It takes great photos, and the built in lense cap is so convenient. There is a lever on the lens that opens the lens cover so you don't need to keep track of a separate lens cap. The price is insanely affordable especially for the quality of the lens. My only 2 complaints are: 1. I wish the lever that opened the lens cover was a bit tighter. I worry about it coming open in my bag. 2. The USB to update the firmware of the lens is on the inside of the lens so if I want to plug it in, I have to keep the back uncovered which means the inside could get dusty and dirty.
