Viltrox AF 26mm F2.8 EVO: Everyday Stories, Made Lighter
A full-frame pancake lens should disappear into your day—not your creative process. The AF 26mm F2.8 EVO combines a naturally wide 26mm view, dual control rings, confident F2.8 image quality and 0.2m close focus in a compact all-metal body made for everyday carry.
The EVO idea
A pancake lens that still feels like a lens
Pancake lenses are loved because they make a camera easier to carry. Too often, however, becoming thinner means losing the tactile controls that make photography satisfying. The AF 26mm F2.8 EVO takes a different route: it stays exceptionally slim while preserving a dedicated aperture ring and a separate focus ring.
That balance is the point of EVO. It evolves the minimalist spirit of Viltrox’s ultra-thin designs into a more complete everyday tool—one that feels quick, deliberate and ready before a moment disappears.
The goal was not thinness at any cost. It was a full-frame lens compact enough to go everywhere, with the controls photographers actually use.
Small body, complete experience
Compact where it matters. Complete where it counts.
From the dual-ring metal barrel to the gear-type STM system, every decision is designed to protect portability without treating image quality or handling as an afterthought.
Full-frame portability, with two real control rings
The Sony E version measures just 23.8mm long and weighs approximately 130g; the Nikon Z version is 25.8mm long and approximately 170g. A dedicated clicked aperture ring and a separate focus ring keep exposure and manual focus adjustments immediate, even in a body this slim.
Eight elements, purposefully arranged
The 8-element, 6-group formula includes two aspherical elements and one high-refractive element. The HR element helps control overall size, while the aspherical elements reduce the number of conventional elements needed and support sharp, natural rendering from the maximum F2.8 aperture.
Gear-type STM: a compact motor for a compact lens
Viltrox uses a gear-type stepping motor here for the first time. Its smaller footprint makes efficient use of the limited internal space while delivering precise autofocus for street scenes, everyday candids and close-up details.
0.2m close focus changes the way 26mm feels
A 0.2m minimum focusing distance and 0.2× maximum magnification let you move from an establishing shot to a detail without changing lenses. Food, textures, travel objects and small natural subjects can fill more of the frame while the wider perspective keeps a sense of place.
Magnetic convenience, with a filter-ready hood
The magnetic cap system makes covering and uncovering the lens fast and satisfying. A 43mm thread is built into the supplied hood, so circular filters can be added without removing the hood. When a filter is installed, the magnetic front cap cannot be attached.
Built for everyday reliability—and future updates
A metal mount, electronic contacts and enhanced dust- and splash-resistance around the mount support daily use. The integrated USB-C port allows firmware updates through the Viltrox Lens App or Viltrox Lens PC client, helping compatibility and performance evolve over time.
A lens for the whole day
One focal length, a full day of stories
The 26mm view feels familiar without becoming ordinary. It leaves room for architecture, gestures, light and context—while F2.8, close focus and a seven-blade diaphragm give you enough creative range to keep one lens mounted from morning to night.
Keep the person—and the world around them—in the frame.
A compact setup that is easier to bring along.
F2.8 opens the door to a lighter astrophotography kit.
Street & travel
Wide enough to describe a place, restrained enough to keep lines and people feeling natural.
Food & details
The 0.2m close-focus distance makes café tables, textures and travel objects easy to explore.
OOTD & lifestyle
A slim, retro-inspired lens that complements compact cameras and keeps location context in the shot.
Lightweight astro
Pair F2.8 with a compact tripod; stop down for crisp 14-point sunstars from the seven-blade diaphragm.

Practical notes
Know before you shoot
Front-group movement
The full-group focusing design can extend the optical group near minimum focus. Protect the front of the lens, and wait for the group to retract before removing the lens after powering down.
Filter and cap workflow
The 43mm filter thread is on the supplied hood. A circular filter can stay on with the hood installed, but the magnetic front cap cannot be attached while the filter is in place.
Gear-type STM feel
A subtle vibration and faint operating sound can be normal as the gears move. For video, moderate focus transitions are a better fit than large, rapid focus pulls.
Clicked aperture ring
The aperture ring uses fixed click stops for tactile stills control. It does not switch to a de-clicked mode.
No optical stabilization
The lens has no built-in optical stabilization. Use in-body stabilization where available, or choose a suitable shutter speed and support for low-light work.
Everyday sealing, not extreme sealing
The mount area has enhanced dust- and splash-resistance, but the external focusing design is not intended for severe rain, heavy dust or other harsh environments.
