I love the Viltrox 135mm F1.8 lens!

I received my new 135mm lens about two weeks ago and I've barely taken it off my camera since! For some context/benchmark, I use a Sony a7iv camera body and I shoot primarily modeling and automotive event photography.

Pros:
The bokeh is great and the background compression allows me to work easily on small backdrops for portraits. My most recent shoot had a backdrop that was only about 3-4 feet across and you couldn't even see the edges with this lens. The build quality feels good and the price for this lens was phenomenal.

Cons:
This lens is slower than some of my Sony FE and Sigma ART lenses when focusing and switching between the viewfinder and the digital display. It can even get stuck unfocused regardless of the focal distance mode I'm in. I've found that flipping the lens into manual and back to AF usually fixes it, but it is still annoying. I didn't buy this lens with the intention of capturing motion so it hasn't been too big a problem so far, but sometimes when a model is switching between poses quickly it can break the flow of the shoot since I have to wait for it to adjust.

Another thing is that it's heavy. As I mentioned, I attend automotive events, often for many hours and carrying this lens on body or in my bag definitely adds some weight to my equipment.

Final remarks: I'm very happy with the the build quality and the images straight out of the camera look great so it is definitely saving me time on editing, but there are some noticeable drawbacks worth considering depending on any photographer's intended purpose for this lens.

Superb image quality that doesn’t break the bank!

This lens offers superb image quality and fast auto focusing that rivals Sony’s GM lenses. It is a tad on the heavier side though. As with all things, there’s always a compromise. So if you’re in the market for a great 135mm lens and doesn’t mind a slightly heavier lens, you must pick this up!
