Overall, the best 35mm lens for Sony

The image is a bit softer than the Sony 35mm GM at f1.4, but starts to catch up at f2.0 and looks outstanding at f2.8.

Compared to the Sony, the chromatic aberration control (especially violet fringing in daylight and backlit situations) is significantly better. This also results in less bokeh-fringing. Mid-distance bokeh in general shows fewer aberrations than the Sony. Not perfect, but the best option we have at this time. Optical vignette is also somewhat better due to the larger aperture. AF-S mode is a bit clunky, the aperture doesn't close down as quickly after focusing, compared to Sony and Sigma lenses I've used.

As of July 2025, Viltrox does not include the lens name in the EXIF metadata, so adobe can't automatically find correction profiles. Because they don't have real customer support in the US, I'm contacting them on WeChat about this issue. The main downside of this lens is going to be the customer service / return policy / warranty. As a US customer, you're supposed to pay to ship things back to China if anything goes wrong.

Great lens at a great price point.
Image quality is very good, lens is a Tad on the heavy side but it’s not a problem, firmware update works great on windows.
Aperture ring could do with a stop and a symbol in the VF indicating you have reached auto Aperture. Not sure about the lens optics moving around while hiking long distance.
All in all a great lens
