    Outstanding teleconverter

After reading some reviews, I decided to order a copy for my Sony A1 with 200-600mm, not so much for wildlife photography, which is my primary use of that lens, but for specialized cases where I want the extreme compression of 1200mm and possibly 2400mm equivalent using Clear Image Zoom for something like a sun or moon behind a distant subject to frame a subject inside the moon or sun, that sort of thing. I do not have any other compatible lens for this teleconverter at present. I use micro-four-thirds systems for other kinds of work and the Sony primarily for video, wildlife, and some sports/events with shorter zooms that don’t allow teleconverters.

I did quite a bit of testing with the lens and teleconverter, comparing image quality for both distant subjects and detailed subjects (birds) at 600mm to see if there is any net gain vs cropping and enlarging or using Clear Image Zoom at 2x with jpegs. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the teleconverter performed, though in low light, when needing a fast shutter speed of 1/1000 and beyond, at f/13 or beyond, the ISO levels will be above 12800 and the sensor will not have the dynamic range or color fidelity that an image below ISO10000 would have and so it can become one of those decisions where it might be better to shoot a subject with fine details using less magnification to obtain more light and less noise. In very bright conditions, the performance is very good, with very little fall off in contrast and no noticeable loss in details and sometime, with good light angles, more details are recorded than would be possible without either a longer telephoto lens (400-800) or a 600mm f/4 prime lens.

For the money, it is worth having it in my kit, and I would like to test it with a 300mm f/2.8 or maybe the Viltrox 135mm f/1.8 at some point.

Is it worth getting if you only have slower zooms like a 100-400 or 200-600 or 400-800? I think for action work where fast shutter speeds are important, thus pushing ISO pretty high, it’s going to depend on what camera system. Sony’s Clear Image Zoom is the best digital zoom I’ve ever experienced. So on Sony, I would mostly recommend it for still shots where one can slow the shutter and keep ISOs withi a range where dynamic range and luminance noise are not so extreme that fine details of subject matter are muddied; or for subjects where details are less significant and composition benefits with greater magnification and distance compression.

Good addition to my sony 200 mm 600mm used on a Alpha 6700 sony camera

The Viltrox TC 2.0 x was shipped really fast to France, parcel received the 20 th of december 2025.
My Hardware : Sony alpha 6700 crop censor camera; viltrox 2x tc; sony lens SEL200600G 200mm 600mm zoom
max zoom reach 1200mm (crop factor gives up to 1800 mm) fair quality from F13 to F22 and F36 with sufficient light,
gives decent result on tripod with 2 sec delay shutter speed 1/80 s or faster, auto iso (up to 800 iso max is good maybe more)

I could test this set up several times but it is important to mention that it is necessary to chose optimal weather condition before deciding to use the teleconverter (any by the way) so with enough light mostly during clear days (its winter here), else you won't get as good result as expected.

    That being said.
For half the price compared to the sony tc 2X, you made a beautiful product, efficient enough and very usable. Thank you Viltrox

The result is surprisingly good considering the reach it offers and compared to the sony converter 1,4 x i own, (i did not try the 2X TC from sony yet), it's very close in terms of luminosity and colour rendition,
image quality is rather sharp and can be improved with denoise editing applied on raw format with Light Room for exemple, when needed.

Subject shooted : landscape, mountains, peaks, ocean, waves, surfing, boats, birds, stills.

I could shoot a mountain peak to a distance of 150 km keeping clear details, a very satisfying shot, on a day with hardly any nebulosity no wind using a tripod and patience. Great experience ! I wanted a teleconverter for that kind of use essentially. Done !

I can tell that i am really satisfied with the result, i hope quality construction will last with time. It seems reliable, time will tell.
the lens is well protected with 2 caps
Not tested on video mode so far.

Autofocus tested with bird 1/1000 shutter speed gave satisfying quality but again needs good luminosity condition otherwise iso will rise and quality will drop.

I recommend this product from Viltrox
and I am satisfied with my purchase
the teleconverter is really efficient when weather condition gives the opportunity to enhance its lens best optical capabilities in a reasonable way, it's a real joy to use on a 200m 600mm sony lens zoom!

Surprising Performance - A Real Bargain

I took a chance on the Viltrox TC-2.0X for Sony already with my doubts about a 2x TC in general and a non-Sony product specifically. I own the Sony 1.4x and with shooting wildlife generally in good lighting was hoping the 2x would be a good match for my Sony 200-600. Well…I was surprised. The construction was as good as Sony’s and perhaps a bit better since the fit was tighter. No warbling and wiggling on my 200-600. Yes, Lost 2 stops but in good light with an A1 II not a big deal. Minimal loss of sharpness and no problems with the autofocus. And half the price of the Sony. Highly recommended with all the caveats of course for any TC.
